Connect your August lock
From /dashboard/keys/connect, click "Connect a lock" and pick August. We open August's secure sign-in page (your password never touches PrepBnB).

Pick a code format and you're done
Default is last-4 of guest phone (matching the code Airbnb already shows the guest). Or pick random_4, random_6, or a custom pattern.
What Key shows per August lock

Do I need an August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge?+
Older August locks (Smart Lock 1st/2nd/3rd gen) need the August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge to be cloud-managed. The newer Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th gen, released ~2020) has Wi-Fi built in — no bridge needed. Both work with Key.
Does Key work with the August Smart Keypad accessory?+
Yes. The Smart Keypad pairs to the lock; codes Key pushes to the lock are usable on the keypad without separate setup. Battery status for the keypad shows separately in our dashboard.
I have an August Wi-Fi Keypad next to a non-August lock — can codes flow there?+
Only if the keypad is paired to a Seam-supported lock. The August keypad on its own (without a paired August lock) isn't independently controllable.
Can I keep my owner code or service codes?+
Yes — Key only manages codes named `Guest_NNNN` that it created. Static owner / cleaner / service codes you set in the August app stay untouched.
What about August's own "Smart Alert" emails?+
Those keep working — Key doesn't touch August's notification settings. You'll still get "Guest entered at 3:14pm" emails from August if you have those enabled.
