Yale + Airbnb Integration

Yale Assure + auto-rotating Airbnb codes.

Bought a Yale Assure 2 for your Airbnb? Key by PrepBnB pulls the guest's last-4 phone digits straight from your iCal feed and pushes a fresh code per reservation — valid check-in to checkout, then auto-expired. $10/lock/month.

Supported Yale models

Compatibility checked against Seam's Yale device list. If your Yale model isn't here, sign up free — the Connect flow tells you immediately whether your specific lock is supported.

5-minute setup

  1. 1

    Sign up for PrepBnB

Free, 60 seconds, no credit card. The free tier covers 1 listing forever; Key is a $10/lock/mo add-on you can skip until you're ready.

  2. 2

    Add your Airbnb iCal feed

Paste your listing's iCal export URL during signup. Key reads every future reservation — guest name, check-in/checkout, last-4 of phone — straight from this feed.

  3. 3

    Connect your Yale lock

From /dashboard/keys/connect, click "Connect a lock" and pick Yale. We open Yale's secure sign-in page (your password never touches PrepBnB). After you authorize, your lock appears in our dashboard.

  4. 4

Pick a code format and you're done

Default is last-4 of guest phone (matching the code Airbnb already shows the guest). Or pick random_4, random_6, or a custom pattern. Codes start syncing on the next hourly cron — no further action.

What Key shows you per Yale lock

Upcoming codes

Next 1–3 reservations with the exact 4-digit code each guest will see, derived from their iCal info.

Battery level

Yale exposes battery percentage to Seam — Key shows it in the dashboard so you can swap before it dies on a guest.

Online status

If the lock loses Wi-Fi, codes can't be pushed. Key flags offline locks immediately so you can reset the bridge.

Yale + Airbnb FAQ

Does my Yale need a Wi-Fi bridge?+

Yes — Yale locks need to be online for Key (and any cloud-managed system) to push codes. Most Yale Assure 2 models include built-in Wi-Fi or pair to a Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge. If you bought one with the August Connect or August bridge, that works too.

I have an older Yale Real Living lock — does that work?+

If it predates Yale Access (the cloud-management line that started around 2018), no — those older Z-Wave-only locks don't speak the cloud protocol Key uses. You'd need to upgrade the lock module or replace the lock.

Can I keep my cleaner's permanent code?+

Yes. Key only manages codes it created (named `Guest_NNNN`). Your cleaner's manual Yale code stays on the lock untouched. We even detect collisions — if a guest's auto-generated code happens to match your cleaner's value, we skip the write and surface a warning.

How fast do codes get pushed?+

Live sync runs every hour. New Airbnb bookings show up in your iCal within minutes; the next hourly sync writes them to the Yale. For same-day bookings within the next hour, you can run Sync Now from the dashboard manually.

Does Yale charge a separate API fee?+

No — Yale's cloud is free for end-users. The $10/lock/month from Key covers our infrastructure (Seam integration, sync engine, Airbnb feed handling).
